Scout charges $10 per month just for DIY monitoring — there is no free monitoring plan. DIY monitoring is only $10 less than the professional plan. This isn’t exceptional when it comes to DIY home security, however, since many have cellular connections. These connections work similarly to your cell phone plan and are more secure than traditional Wi Fi or landline connections. But it’s important to note that even if you’re doing the monitoring yourself, you’ll still be charged to keep your system up and running. Brinks Home Security is well recognized for offering professionally monitored security systems. These systems offer the flexibility of either professional or DIY installation. As a partner with Nest, they also allow you to choose between using their own equipment or Nest Secure equipment and monitoring. If you choose Nest Secure, Brinks will provide the ongoing staff and support for that system. Choosing Brinks comes at a premium price, but they do offer financing options for equipment at low or no interest. The monitoring itself is low cost, and it comes with a 2 year warranty although some options also require a 3 year commitment.

One more thing—there needs to be a way to turn of “phone is not charging” warnings. I am getting them repeatedly and all of them are not necessary. I need one and then I need another when the battery gets to 50 another at 20 and maybe start to nag me at 5%. But there is no reason to bug me every minute or so when I know the phone is plugged in and I am at work. Plus it usually stops charging until the battery level actually drops.
